Each time there is an official game update, you will need to redownload the .rar file and reinstall the files as you normally would. If you are getting errors, please check to ensure the file you are using matches the hyperlink above.
Instructions:
1) Check the notes section on this page
2) Download the .rar file and open it.
3) Go into C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2 \pso2_bin\data\win32 (unless you specifically saved it elsewhere) and move and replace the files from the .rar to this folder. (It is always a good idea to back up original files.)
4) Launch the Beta client and go online. Voila! Most text has been translated.
Provision 1) In order to update with the newer file, you must re-download and follow steps 1-3 again. Make sure your browser has not cached the earlier file. The easiest way to do this is to right click and save the link/target as, and save it under a different name onto your computer.
Notes:
- Translators are updated frequently as most are works in progress. Check back occasionally to see if an update has been released
- You will need Win-Rar to open this file. http://www.win-rar.com/download.html

Hacks / Cheats
The following method no longer works. Its being kept for archive purposes. Do not attempt.
This section will not go into great depth for legality issues. The game is hackable. Here is what you need to do.
You MUST have a 64 bit Operating System in order for this method to work. 32 bit will be detected by Gameguard(Trademark of nProtect).
Instructions
1) Download the latest version of Cheat Engine
http://www.cheatengine.org/downloads.php
2) Run Cheat Engine as an administrator.
3) Go to Edit> Settings
4) Select Debugging Options
5) Check the box titled “Try to prevent detection”
6) Go to the Extra tab and enable Read / Write process memory
7) Depending on your operating system you may need to disable to signed driver limitations. Google how this is done. Its very easy.
8a) Launch the game and click the open process button and select PSO2.
8b)This will bypass Gameguard Revision 1855 which is what PSO2 runs on. I would suggest also running DBVM with Cheat Engine but in most cases this is optional.
You can now search for addresses and edit memory. There are some limitations but if you know what you’re doing you can do things like walk through walls, stay jumped, unlimited pp, stat modifier, infinite mag feed etc etc. Use at your own risk. We assume no responsibility for your actions. Cheating is against the ToS and can get you banned.
Does this also work for the new official patch?
Yes, this works with the latest official version of the game.
The game text went blank -.- Can you diagnose this problem? I got a 65bit win rar. and plopped the files in. I cant play. Do you or anyone happen to have an original data file?

this also works on the benchmark. its not a 100% English but it will get you threw the game alot faster then the guess work.
To extract from rar, 7zip is the best alternative.

Could you try to squeeze in translations of the Mag menus in your next update? Particularly in regards to the Mag stats. Some people I was playing with today and I got our mags finally and we don’t have the faintest on where to start. Also thought I should bring up the symbol chat menu. I was attempting to use it only to find that all the text is gone, Japanese or otherwise.

Aww do you still have the older ones? I don’t like how the japanese texts are missing in the art symbol editor or are you going to fix that one soon?

I can’t seem to find the specific folders to be putting these files in. Does this mean I have to re-download this whole Beta again if I just wanna use this patch? :/
No, they might be in Program Files (X86) if you’re on a 64 bit OS.
The easiest way to find them would be to do a search for “SEGA” on your computer.

This probably needs an update sooner or later. There’s a few menus remaining untranslated, like the “My Room” bit. I also think the AC shop items should be done, too. But that’s me.

Do you mind NOT linking to cheat engine’s? That’s the LAST thing we need to encourage. Being over-run with hackers is one of the main complaints I hear about PSU’s servers. It’s also a FACT that no-one plays PSP2 online anymore BUT hackers. Everyone else either moved on or was forced to because they couldn’t get a legitimate game going anymore, myself included. Do you know the shit-fest this hack engine has ALREADY created in PSO2′s Japanese player-base? Do us a favor and remove that link and the instructions, we don’t need this crap.
It should be noted that Agrajag actually hates this game, so no, it probably won’t be removed from the post.

I’m trying to use this for the pre open beta test coming up but whenever I replace the files in the win32 folder and then start the game, there is no text on the button on the menu, and after you click that there isn’t any buttons anymore, and none of the text is translated. Help?

Do you happen to know if this patch will work as-is in the pre-open and open betas? The patch for the pre-open has been out for a while so I’d imagine someone with more knowledge than me could check whether the files are the same. I’d also like to know if you plan to continue updating this, such as in the event that it doesn’t work as-is.
The patch does not work for the prebeta currently. Installing it will clear almost all text ingame.
Is there any solution/work around? Not having text breaks the menu for me.

The patch does not work with the pre-OB client. It will remove all the text in the game and make the game unable to be started.

You can be banned from PSO-World forums for linking to such patches. Editing the software of the game is considered against the ToS, but playing from outside japan is too if I recall correctly.
You should be plenty safe from being banned for just using the English Translation patch. Using hacks and cheats will obviously be risky.
I patched this without reading the comments beforehand and now my game shows no text at all. How to fix it?

please dont support cheat engine on this site. there are enough wannabe hackers out there as it is we dont need anyone who has no desire to do so yet be inspired to. anyways cheat engine isnt hacking. and most people who use cheat engine or hack at games suck so bad they still get thier asses handed to them. so please do not condone cheating. if your a real hacker fine by me i wanna be on your good side. but to all the fake wannabe hackers and people who do it to look cool get a life and go suk it!

If you patch the Open Beta client with this English patch, all text will disappear, and you won’t be able to log into the game.
How do you revert it to Japanese?
in case you haven’t figured it out, there’s an option in the launcher to “update” which will fix all altered files.

When I paste the files in win32 and upload the game the text from the beginning where it normally says SEGAID is missing so I cant even pick a server or log in.

This is not JUST the OB btw its the version of PSO2 that will go till live, so its more complex then the CB or a normal OB so keep that in mind ppl, relax & wait a lil bit. it will be worth the wait.
As a tip tho, if you want to set up ur config on the settings. use the old patch on the Benchmark & take a SS of the settings in eng then go on PSO2 & make the changes.

Thanks so much for working on this, I can’t wait until it comes out! Honestly even if JUST the menus were translated it would make this experience 10x better than it is.

Well, to revert it back to Japanese, hopefully you saved those initial files that you replaced when you copied over the translation files. If you DID save it, then just try re-pasting them and see if that works. If that doesn’t work and you have the entire folder full of the files saved somewhere, delete the ones that include the translation files and re-paste all the old ones in and that should fix it. If all else fails…. delete and re-install PSO2.
It’s only 4 days into Open Beta, give them time to release an English patch. I can’t imagine how much work it is to go through and translate every piece of text in the game… I imagine it’ll take a couple months before a full English patch comes out. It’s just good to know that there are a group of people doing this for all of us.

then it asks me to replace al the files with the old ones because apperently i already have them. but when i start playing, nothing is translated , please help me:(
Ok, this game is great alone, but it does need an English Patch.

Since the game is going into full release, does that mean the patch will take longer since you have to translate all the new stuff that comes out? Or will you release what you have now and later release the newer translations later?

They added some compressions to ICE files. I wish i know what the compression is (maybe will try find out) so then we coul duse CB files and make new ones for new format.

Sure thing. An update on the English Patch. Sega will release PSO2 International Edition in Spring of 2013.

They won’t release any information regarding the patch outside of either “It’s done” or “It’s not done” So SEGA doesn’t get wind and change up the encryption . I know it’s taking a long time but be patient they are working as hard as they can.

Reverse engineering is art type thing and you almost never can tell how much time you need to finish your art.

No it’s not like art. It may be hard to tell how much time it will take like many other things, but it’s not like art at all.

i think it’s because of th new encryption system, i heard that it’s way more complex than the one found in open beta…play in japanese guys, pso2 bumped have done a great job translating everything for us

When that error comes up you have to get the updated patch and replace the files. Be sure to check back here often after Sega updates PSO2 to see if updated patch is released.

items in english aren’t possible as far as I know, last I heard they were server-side.
From what i hear the item names are server side, so not possible to translate them, at least not like the rest of the stuff.

Just copy and paste the files over to the win32 folder. It will replace what is needed.

Yes. The item names are server side, so they aren’t able to be translated from the computer.

Yes. It is available now.
I think every update that Sega makes, will screw up this english patch. You might have to update the patch again, because of the Floating Islands update made to PSO2.

No. Due to the weapons being on the server side of the game, they cannot be translated to English.

I got it to work again, but now I’m having no.674 error. And internet says it’s a connection failure and I should wait a couple of minutes. But I’m trying for over 12 hours now…
I’ve figured out the problem. Unlike internets says, it’s not a connection error. It’s wrong password in combination with wrong ID. Remember to not use capitals in your ID. I used WhyPayMore but need to be whypaymore.
So when I installed the game I did it normally (did not redirect the download to a different folder/place), but there is no \pso2_bin folder. Is there any where else I can move the files to have the text translated or am I unable to use the patch?
Where ever the game was installed to is where the folder will be located.

You should be looking through the folder that PSO2 was installed to. For example – C:\Program Files\SEGA\PHANTASYSTARONLINE2\pso2_bin\data\win32 is where I have to copy my files to in order to get the patch to work properly.
Or you can just Right click the PSO 2 Icon from your desktop and click on “Open File location”
The patch works great. Now I can read the menus and everything. Really enjoying the game.

Every time a new patch is released this page will be updated. If it doesn’t, chances are the old patch still works or the new patch isn’t finished yet. Just have to wait it out and see.
No it currently isn’t working due to a file check system that has been implemented. It needs a new file name.

I just downloaded the game from sega and got all the patches. But when I move the file over for the translation it doesn’t do anything. It’s all still in japanese nothing is in english. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I can not confirm that the patch no longer works. I got on today and PSO 2 just keeps crashing. Worked fine up until last night. So…Unless there is another update…No one will be playing PSO 2 in the States….or else where. Unless you know Japanese of course…which most people don’t. So…I guess we are all SOL until a new patch is released…if that ever happens. But it was fun playing while it lasted.

Ok, I was finally able to get PSO 2 working again. I have also noticed that Cheat Engine does not work….it also seems to crash the game with error(s). Might want to take the instructions for Cheat Engine down.
